Meet the Directors

Carol Lowman is the Director of Bands at Olathe West High School. Her duties at Olathe West currently include Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Pep Bands, Jazz Band, AP Music Theory, and assisting as needed in the Olathe West Area Band Programs. She has earned both her bachelors and master's degrees in music education from the University of Kansas, where she studied the tuba and bass trombone, and was a four-year member of the Marching Jayhawks (two years on sousaphone and two years as drum major). She has also marched in three seasons of Drum Corps International with the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps on the Contra/Tuba. Prior to joining the staff at OWHS, Carol Lowman served as assistant director of bands at Blue Valley High School from 2010-2017. She is a member of the Kansas Music Educators Association, Kansas Bandmasters Association, and the National Association for Music Education.

John Wickersham is the Assistant Band Director at Olathe West High School. His duties at Olathe West currently include Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Pep Bands, Jazz Band, as well as teaching at four OW area elementary schools. He has earned both his bachelors and master's degrees in music education from the University of Kansas, where he studied percussion and was a four-year member of the Marching Jayhawks. John Wickersham also marched in one season of Drum Corps International with the Colts Drum & Bugle Corps and then taught with the Colt Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps for five years. Prior to joining the staff at OWHS, he served as assistant band director at Olathe North High School from 2014-2017 and as an elementary band director from 2008-2014. He is a member of the Kansas Music Educators Association, Kansas Bandmasters Association, National Association for Music Education, and the Percussive Arts Society.
